Hunt Highway was a dangerous dirt road between the Johnson Ranch area and the Town of Florence. School buses and cars navigated the road among such hazards as semi trucks and dangerous monsoon conditions.
Mr. Johnson observed a school bus one day that had run off the muddy highway because of the horrible conditions and right then knew he had to do something to help.
He generously paid to pave the 11 1/2 miles of highway from Johnson Ranch South to Florence and also helped to pave 1 1/2 miles of Hunt Highway North of Johnson Ranch to the existing paved road.
In addition he helped to pave 4 miles of Bella Vista Road thus creating a much nicer environment for those residents and commuters in the area.
He received no benefits from any governmental agency for doing these projects. He was happy to do them to help out the community.
